Melody/LyricsThis is how you spin fibers into thread. You take some combed wool, stretch it by hand and tie one end to the spindle. Then hang the spindle down and spin it by force like a top. The spindle keeps on spinning, twisting fibers, and pulling a thread from the mass of combed wool. The Armenian countrywomen would sing songs while spinning the spindle, knitting socks or sewing. They use numerous sound imitations (onomatopoeia) in their songs. Collected and transcribed by Vartan Samvelyan.
