This is a song about the good tidings of great joy: the birth of Jesus Christ. These songs are also called “Avetis,” meaning “gospel or good news.” In the villages, these Christmas songs were mostly performed by children and youth. The group of singers would visit almost every house in the village, and the villagers would present them with eggs, butter, money, and other gifts.
