This is a Gandz performed at wakes and during the Service for the Deceased. Gandz is a relatively new genre of the Armenian sacred music. The works of Grigor Narekatsi (Gregory of Narek) contributed greatly to the development of this genre. The Gandz is narrative in character while the Tagh provides a moving commentary on the text.
