Notated chants from the Breviary, Vagharshapat, 1877.
Melody/LyricsThis is a medieval sacred hymn for the Evening Prayer. The Evening Service starts before sunset and is dedicated to God the Son and symbolizes “The Taking Down from the Cross” and the “Burial of Jesus.” It is believed, that on one occasion, this hymn was performed by young Soghomon Soghomonian (Komitas Vardapet), who couldn’t actually speak Armenian at the time. Catholicos Gevork IV and the others in presence were mesmerized by his performance.
