This is an exceptional example of a tragic epic tale. Mirza was the prince of Mox. He was a strong, handsome, and virtuous man. Kolod Pasha invites him to be his guest and then treacherously poisons him. In one version of the song, it's suggested that Mirza was poisoned because Kolod fancied his beautiful wife.
